What's to reduce stress ?
Welded fabrications, due to weld shrinkage, contain residual stresses which could cause distortion in components needing machining after welding. The reason being throughout the machining operation material is taken away, thus growing the natural residual stress. Stress reducing, whilst not normally necessary, will then be needed before machining of welded components.
